Citizen of the Year Award

Greetings!

21st Anual Meeting and Scientific Session

Last January 2009 we celebrated the 20th convention with great success. It was entitled “Meet the Masters”. This unprecedented event was received with incredible satisfaction when we were able for the first time in history gather in a chapter’s convention ten of the most renowned MACC of the world. Memories are shared in the photo section in our Internet page.

This year the Puerto Rico (PR) Chapter celebrates its 21st Meeting on May 28-30 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Isla Verde. As always interesting and updated cardiology topics are the rule. This year the meeting is entitled CARDIOLOGY IN THE TROPICS. The convention is dedicated to our foremost renowned pediatric cardiologist Dr. Amalia Martínez Picó. Her outstanding legacy in the education of our pediatric cardiologists, management of the PR childhood cardiovascular diseases and her dedication to the welfare of the PR health status earns her this distinction.

Topics to be covered this year range from: Women and Heart Diseases, Type 2 Diabetes and Cardiovascular Diseases, Cardiac Arrhythmia, Depression and Cardiovascular Diseases, Left Ventricular Support Devices, Therapies in Acute STEMI, Pulmonary Hypertension, Atrial Fibrillation, Development of New Devices (ICD/PPM), Diet, Exercise, Herbs and Supplements, Lead Extraction, and Surgical Therapy of Tricuspid Disease, among others

In addition Dr. Ralph Brindis, ACC President, will honor us with his presence and will address a lecture on the National ACC present status.

Besides our cardiovascular convention, the 4th Cardiac Care Associates (CCA) convention is celebrated concomitantly. The meeting is composed of 3 days of interesting CCA topics and workshops. These workshops will cover pacemakers, arrhythmias and ICD diagnostics among others. As in the past year we will be delighted to have the first ACC FACC Dr. Eileen Handberg as part of the faculty. The National Co-Chair CCA representative to the ACC, Margo Minissian will also be one of our keynote speakers in addition to our local CCA experts.

The Chapter’s Convention will include as always our daily social events for the family, local Ritz Carlton amenities, daily parties and scheduled island scenery tours. An important event this year is the induction of Dr. Luis Rodríguez-Ospina, who will serve as new President and Governor of the PR Chapter for the next three years. The local chapter scientific committee and governing board welcomes you and your family to celebrate with us this outstanding event.

Cordially,

José R. Rivera Del Rio, FACP, FACC
President and Governor
PR ACC chapter
